# The EMDR Workspace

> What happens when you tap EMDR in a session — the configure modal, the running stimulus, the SUDS card between sets, and the arc at the end.

The EMDR Workspace is a four-state surface that lives inside your video
session. You tap **EMDR** in the call toolbar; the Workspace mounts on top of
the live call without ending it, the stimulus fills your client's screen, and
both your faces stay on screen the whole time.

The four states map to how a typical EMDR session actually flows:

1. **Configure** — the modal where you set rate, stimulus, modalities, and
sets before Set 1 begins. Your client's screen shows the scene while
   you're setting it up.
2. **Running** — the BLS itself, with a HUD on your side showing set number,
countdown, current SUDS, audio pan, and the dual-task prompt panel (EMDR
   2.0).
3. **Between sets** — a card that pops automatically after each set ends.
Capture the SUDS, see the session sparkline, and click Continue.
4. **Session arc** — the closing card after the final set. SUDS trajectory
curve, stats tiles, and a Copy button that drops a plain-text session
summary onto your clipboard. The outcome also saves to the client's
chart automatically, so it's there even if you don't tap Copy.

## What the client sees

The client sees the stimulus against the backdrop you picked — a moving
dot, butterfly, flame, star, or square, depending on your settings. If audio
is on, they hear a tone in whichever ear the stimulus is currently on. If
they've paired a phone, it taps on the turns of that same movement.

That's the entire client surface. There's nothing to dismiss, nothing to
configure, no panel to expand. The configure modal, the dual-task prompts,
the SUDS card, the session arc — none of that reaches their side.

## What you see

A small overlay on top of the running canvas:

* **Stats pill** at the top with the current set number, countdown to set end,
total session time, and the latest SUDS value
* **Dual-task prompt panel** on the left in EMDR 2.0 mode, showing a prompt
you can read aloud during the set
* **SUDS scale** down the right edge, a quick-reference for the 0–10 scale
* **Audio pan indicator** in the bottom left showing live left↔right movement
* **End set** button in the bottom right

Plus your video tiles — you see yourself and your client as you would in any
session.

## One movement, not three

Where the stimulus is on its path and which ear the tone is in are the same
value, worked out once and used for both. There's no second clock keeping
the sound in step with the picture, because there's nothing to keep in step.
A paired phone joins the same beat rather than running its own.

Change the speed mid-set and picture, sound and tap re-converge on the next
pass. See [One movement, not three](/emdr/staying-in-sync) for why that
matters clinically, and what to do when the connection degrades.

## What's in scope

* **EMDR 2.0** as the default — 1.5 Hz, visual + audio, dual-task
  prompts on
* **Classic EMDR** — Shapiro-standard 1.0 Hz, visual only, dual-task off
* Five stimulus shapes, six motion paths, eight sound presets, eight gradient
  scenes plus eight photo backdrops
* Visual and audio modalities, plus optional taps on your client's phone —
nothing to install on Android, a small Rivet companion on iPhone
* SUDS capture between sets, saved to the client's chart when the session
  ends
* One-tap Copy session summary at the end

## What the Workspace doesn't do

* **Advance between sets on its own.** A set ends on its own timer and then
waits for you. The check-in between sets is the work; a timer isn't in a
position to decide whether the next set should run.
* **Stop a set when the connection degrades.** A set runs its timer
regardless. If the picture stalls or the sound breaks up, stop the set
yourself and get the connection back before continuing.
* **Chart save without a linked client.** The outcome saves to a client's
chart automatically, but only when the session is tied to a client who
checked in by name and number. A session that isn't linked to a client
tells you so plainly on the arc card — Copy still works either way.
* **AI-generated reflections or summaries.** Rivet's EMDR Workspace is a
delivery tool, not a transcript generator. There is no recording, no
ambient listening, no AI inference on session audio.
