# Your Rivet URL

> getrivet.ca/your-name — the one address your clients ever have to remember.

The first time you open your Waiting Room, it asks you to pick your Rivet
URL. This is the identity moment of setup. The URL you pick —
`getrivet.ca/your-name` — is the single address your clients use for every
session. They save it once, tap it each time, and never need a meeting ID,
a fresh link, or an account login.

It's yours for as long as you're a Rivet customer.

## What your clients see when they visit your URL

Your URL is your **waiting room**. When a client opens
`getrivet.ca/your-name` — from the link in your text, your email, or a
bookmark — they land on a page that shows:

* Your practice name
* A button to join
* Permission requests for their camera and microphone
* A waiting state once they've joined, with a note that you'll let them
  in when you're ready

You see them appear on your side, and you tap to let them into the
session.

The waiting room is always at the same URL. A client could see you weekly
for six months and never ask "What's the link this time?" — it's the same
page, every visit.

## Picking your name

You choose it during signup, at **Choose your video waiting room link** —
the fourth question. Rivet suggests one from your practice name; take it or
type your own. It checks as you type and tells you whether it's available
before you carry on.

Some guidance:

* **The practice name is the natural choice**, which is why it's the
  suggestion. `getrivet.ca/riverside-counselling` is the address your
  clients will come to recognise, and it survives you changing anything
  else about how you work.
* **Your own name works just as well if you practise under it.** A solo
  practitioner whose practice *is* their name should use it:
  `getrivet.ca/sarah-chen` reads fine.
* **Use the shortest form that's still recognisable.**
  `getrivet.ca/dr-sarah-elizabeth-chen-rsw` is too long to remember and too
  tall for a business card.
* **Hyphens are allowed, spaces aren't.** Lowercase only. Letters, numbers
  and hyphens, 3 to 30 characters.
* **If your name is common**, add a city or a modality.
  `getrivet.ca/sarah-chen-emdr` is unambiguous; `getrivet.ca/john-smith`
  is probably taken.

<Tip>
  Printed materials go stale fast. Pick a name you can live with for years —
  business cards, intake emails and your website's "Book a session" link
  will all point at it.
</Tip>

## Claiming it

It's claimed when you finish signing up — you can't carry past that question
without an available link, so there's nothing left to do about it
afterwards. A short email follows with the link in it, ready to forward to
a colleague, and the "Pick your Rivet URL" row in the setup guide arrives
already ticked.

The first time you sign in, your Waiting Room shows the full link with a
**Copy link** button beside it.

## Changing it later

Tap **Edit**, inside the link field beside your address. The first pick is
free; after that you have three changes, and the editor shows how many
remain. Once they're
used up the page says so, and you can email **[hello@getrivet.ca](mailto:hello@getrivet.ca)** if you
genuinely need another.

The limit is there for your clients' sake. Every change breaks the printed
card, the intake email, the calendar invite and the "Sarah's video link"
note they keep. Treat a change as a do-over you use once, early, and then
leave the address alone.

## How clients usually save it

The fastest pattern: text the URL to each client with their first
appointment confirmation. On iPhone and Android they can press and hold
the link to add it to their home screen as a one-tap icon. From then on,
"opening Sarah" is a single tap — no app, no login, no lost link.

A close second: put the URL as the "Meeting location" in the calendar
invite for each session. Most clients tap it straight from their calendar
on the day.
