# Your first 10 minutes

> From signup to a working practice line, your waiting room URL, and a tested session loop.

If you've just signed up, this is the shortest path from the welcome screen
to a practice that can take calls, run sessions, and respond to clients.
Every step links to a deeper page — but you don't need to read those right
now.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Finish signup at getrivet.ca/start">
    Six fields: email, your name, your practice name, your mobile number,
    your city, and a choice of practice number. A magic-link email lands
    within a minute. Open it on the device you're going to use Rivet on
    (laptop for sessions, phone for the practice line on the move — most
    practitioners use both).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the magic link">
    The email contains a one-tap sign-in link. Opening it signs you in and
    drops you on the welcome screen. Behind the scenes, Rivet is
    provisioning your phone number — the screen flips to "ready" in
    60–120 seconds.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Claim your Rivet URL">
    Pick the slug clients will see: `getrivet.ca/your-name`. This is your
    permanent waiting-room link — share it once in your intake email, put
    it in your email signature, and your clients always know where to
    join. Pick the shortest recognisable form of your name.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save your practice number">
    The welcome screen shows your new local number. Copy it, save it to
    your contacts as "Rivet Voicemail," and head to
    [Practice phone](/practice-phone/index) when you want to forward your
    existing number into it. Your existing line keeps working — call
    forwarding routes missed calls into the Rivet inbox.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open your waiting room URL on the phone you use as a client">
    Tap your `getrivet.ca/your-name` link from your personal phone. That's
    exactly what a client sees on their first session. The pre-join surface
    asks for camera and mic, shows a selfie-mirror preview, and waits for
    you to admit them. Bookmark it so you can show clients what to expect.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Run a 2-minute test session with a colleague">
    Text your Rivet URL to a colleague, ask them to open it from their
    browser, and run a 2-minute test. Confirm the audio and video work,
    walk through the in-session toolbar, and end the session cleanly. This
    is also the cleanest way to introduce a peer to Rivet — they see the
    client side, you see the practitioner side.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Leave yourself a test voicemail">
    Call your new Rivet number from your mobile, leave a short voicemail,
    and watch it appear in the inbox — transcribed locally in Canada,
    tagged, and with an auto-response text already on its way back to the
    caller. That's the loop your real clients will hit between sessions.
  </Step>
