1. Notification permission is off
The first time you open Rivet, the app asks for permission to send notifications. If you tapped “Don’t Allow,” incoming calls don’t ring on the device — the app doesn’t have the permission it needs to wake the screen. Fix on iPhone:
Fix on Android: Settings → Apps → Rivet → Notifications. Allow all
categories, particularly Incoming calls and Calls (these are the
high-priority channels that wake the screen). Then reopen Rivet once.
2. Do Not Disturb or Focus mode is on
iOS Focus modes (Do Not Disturb, Sleep, Work, Personal) silence Rivet calls unless you’ve allow-listed the app. Fix on iPhone: Settings → Focus → tap the active mode → Apps → add Rivet to allowed apps. Repeat for any Focus mode you regularly use. Fix on Android: Settings → Notifications → Do Not Disturb → Exceptions → allow Rivet (specifically the Incoming calls channel).3. iOS shows the call screen for two seconds then dies
A particular pattern: the incoming-call screen flashes up with your contact name, you reach for the phone, the screen goes dark before you can answer. The caller hears it ring once and then dead air. This is almost always a network problem at the exact moment of the call. Rivet sends the call to your phone, iOS shows the call UI, the app tries to connect to set up the audio — and the connection fails because your phone briefly has no usable internet. The incoming-call screen auto-dismisses after a few seconds when the connection doesn’t establish. Common causes:- You were on a weak Wi-Fi (one bar) at the moment of the call. Your phone was connected but couldn’t reach the internet.
- You were on cellular at the edge of coverage.
- You just woke the phone from a long sleep and the network hadn’t reconnected yet.
4. Android — push wasn’t fully configured for your account
Rare, and only on Android, and only if you signed up before May 2026. If your account was provisioned before a particular setup step landed, incoming calls might never ring even though SMS notifications work. Symptom: Inbound SMS notifications work, but inbound calls never ring on your Pixel/Samsung/etc. Outbound calls from the app work fine. Fix: Email hello@getrivet.ca with “Android calls not ringing” and your Rivet email. It’s a one-minute fix on our end. When in doubt: test it
The fastest way to verify the loop is working: call your Rivet number from a friend’s phone (or your home phone). If it rings, the notification path is healthy and the missed call was a moment-in-time network problem. If it doesn’t ring, work through the four causes above in order.Related articles
